2015 was definitely the year of the nomad. Between May and November my suitcase remained packed. I’ve taken 29 flights, 30 ferries, numerous buses & trains – sleeping on couches, in hotels, tents, a campervan, BnBs and floors. I photographed couples all over the UK, Singapore, Spain, Germany and also holidayed in Thailand.
Moving up to the remoteness of the Outer Hebrides for my busiest year may seem like utter madness but I somehow made it work. Although I had to be away an awful lot when I was home the islands made an incredible base. Everyday was inspiring and it’s helped me to focus on what is truly important. I’ll be writing more about my year here in a separate post but for now let’s just say – it’s given my husband & I the break we’ve needed. It’s helped me realise exactly what I want from life and we’re slowly making steps towards our end goal.
Not only do I feel I have grown as a photographer this year, but ultimately as a person. I’ve been firmly living and running my business just the way I want. It’s allowed me to attract exactly the right couples who have been an absolute joy to work with. I’ve also had the chance to meet and interact with a number of incredible fellow artists, some of which I’m pleased to now call friends. I’ve never been more in love with the industry and all the beautiful souls within it.
My 2016 is still unfolding but so far I’m looking forward to capturing more love stories closer to home, working on my art in whatever medium I choose, spontaneous adventures and embracing the beauty of life every single day.
This year I tried to focus more on capturing real honest moments between couples and their loved ones. Although I want my work to look beautiful above all I want to evoke a sense of feeling. That’s what I believe excellent photography should do – transport you right back into that moment. Below is a collection of some of my favourites taken throughout the year. I am still to share many of these stories on the blog, and go through my travelling images, so this is a taster of what’s to come.
Thank you so much to all my couples who have taken me along with them to capture their day, and everyone who helped make this year possible – you know who you are. <3
